It’s more than going to work or class—it’s everyday life. It’s knowing your neighbor and helping them. I want to focus on the service piece of our “protect and serve” motto. Aside from policing, how do we serve our neighbor? When you do something to help someone, that’s the truest sense of belonging. Feeling safe is another component of that. When I see students, I don’t think of them as just students. We’re in this together. That’s what family and community is. Being a police officer here at the University is more than enforcement—it’s mentorship.
