The Community Engagement House

I was nervous about starting fresh in a new community and finding my place in Sewanee. When I got involved with the Office of Civic Engagement, I got to collaborate with people on campus and local organizations on the Plateau. This house has given me the opportunity to link campus community with the broader community. I’ve formed some amazing friendships with people in this house, and we work together to organize events and service days. Coming into a new place is intimidating. At first, you want to latch on to all the friends you can find. Then as you start to settle into specific communities, that’s when you don’t feel so lost—you start feeling like you belong in a space.
