THE COMMON APPLICATION

Sewanee accepts only the Common Application. Here are the things we are looking for when we read yours:

  • Essay written clearly and passionately;
  • Extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports, church groups, or work experience with demonstrated leadership;
  • Two positive recommendations: one from a junior/senior core curriculum teacher, one from a school counselor, and up to two recommendations from church leaders, work supervisors, or volunteer coordinators;
  • Competitive ACT/SAT scores for students who choose to submit them. We recommend submitting scores in one of two ways:
    • Send directly from the testing agency (SAT code 1842, ACT code 4024)
    • Self-report your scores using this Test Score Self-Reporting Form.
    • Sewanee does not require the Writing portions of either the ACT or SAT.
HIGH SCHOOL COURSES

Typically, successful Sewanee applicants are on track to complete:

  • Four years of English;
  • Two or more years of a foreign language;
  • Three or more years of math, including algebra I, algebra II and geometry;
  • Two or more years of laboratory science;
  • Two or more years of social science, including history;
  • Strong high school performance demonstrating consistent or increasing strength in coursework.
YOUR ADMISSION COUNSELOR

In addition to being an excellent resource for admission information, your admission counselor is the first person to review your application. Get to know them by attending college fairs, visiting our campus, or just sending them an email.

DEMONSTRATED INTEREST

Sewanee is a close community, and one that benefits from students who are 'all-in'. Because of this, a review of your engagement with our office through campus visits, college fairs, off-campus appointments, high school visits, phone calls, etc. is part of our application review process.
