Tuition & Fees

Sewanee will not raise its price for 2018-19

For the 2018-19 academic year, there will be no increase in tuition, fees, room and board for the college class entering the university next fall (2018). The tuition freeze continues the university’s series of efforts over the last six years to make a Sewanee education as affordable and accessible as possible. The College Board has reported that published tuition at private four-year colleges has increased at an average rate of 2.4 percent per year beyond inflation over the last decade. Conversely, Sewanee's freshman class next year will pay the same as this year’s entering class.

Last year, Sewanee invested more than $33 million of institutional resources through academic scholarships, need-based grants, tuition remissions, and institutional employment opportunities for undergraduate students. 87 percent of undergraduates receive institutional, federal, or state gift funding in 2017-2018. In August 2017, 91% of entering freshman will receive funding from Sewanee in the form of scholarships, need-based grants, tuition exchange or tuition remission. Their average gift aid was $24,835. 55% of the incoming class is eligible for need-based aid.

This generous financial aid represents another piece of the university’s strong commitment to keeping the cost of a top-quality college education accessible for qualified students.

2018-19 Undergraduate Comprehensive Fee & Other Expenses:
  • Comprehensive Fee: $58,000 includes tuition, room and board, and fees
  • Students should also estimate $1,200 for necessary books and supplies. Transportation expenses vary based on a student's location. Students should allow for between $400 and $1,200 in travel costs.
