Something
Everybody who passes through Sewanee’s gates will all have one experience in common: they won’t be on the Domain for long before hearing about the Sewanee football team of 1899. In the usual telling of the story, the season played by that team seems more like legend than history. Two Class of ’76 alumni explore Sewanee, sports, and cultural history to tell the true story of the 1899 football team in a forthcoming documentary film.
The Course at Sewanee was renovated by Gil Hanse in 2013—Golf Magazine’s 2009 Architect of the Year. While the original 1915 hole routing remains the same, Hanse reimagined, redesigned, and rebuilt almost every other aspect of the course while being mindful of the delicate ecosystem on the Cumberland Plateau. Complemented by the new Sewanee Inn and Golf Lodge, the Course is one of the finest campus golf courses in the country.
NCAA postgraduate scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically. Only about 120 of these are given annually across all NCAA divisions. Sewanee student-athletes are regularly nominated and often win these prestigious scholarships to continue their academic pursuits. 34 Sewanee student-athletes have earned this scholarship and gone on to study medicine, law, business, and other fields.
